Friday night, rugby game.

April 23, 2008

it’s happened, friday night of the last week i saw my first rugby game for real in New Zealand and i was lucky because it was a great game with chiefs beating crusaders. the couple with us was very friendly and we had fun together.

I tasted this beer, waikato draught, but honestly it’s not a good beer. Kiwis call it “river water” it means many things about how it’s disgusting, i had three of them while i watched the game and the other couple had 9 of them ( yeah, kiwis drink a lot ).

Numb3rs

numbers

Yesterday night i had my frist lesson of Maori, i could learn the numbers form 1 to 5 :

1 –> tahi

2 –> rua

3 –> toru

4 –> wha

5 –> rima

i could not do more that that, but it is a good starting i hope. Sometimes here Pakeha do not to spell well maoris words, why? i don’t know, i guess it is because of the racism. I will find out it.

Mt Maunganui and other things.

April 16, 2008

Saturday of the last week we went to MT Maunganui, it’s a real nice place here in New Zealand, a sort of Porto Cervo for Italians, a commercial place where people go to show themselves.

I don’t like that at all but i have to admit that is a very nice place and what you can see from the top of the mount is amazing, and the path to go on the top is not that hard as someone can imagine, it takes an half hour walking.

It is not far from here ( hamilton or Hamitron ( a sort of tech-nickname remembering THE TRANSFORMERS ( Megatron )), just an hour and half by car, crossing the Waikato to The Bay of Plenty. It has been funny because i drove on the way back to Hamilton, it’s not difficult just be sure to keep the left when you are driving and because the car is automatic so i didnt have to think about changing gears.

It was raining in these days and it’s better, it was so brown and that’s weird here, usually is more green.

Monday morning i went to this agency for an interview and she said me that now i am able to ask 40/45K but i can earn more than that soon, but i have to find job to start to earn. Anyway she organised me an interview for the enxt week for this School for Maoris, i hope it goes well, i want to start to work as soon as possible. The same day in the afternoon i had another interview for this cars seller, it’s a big firm in nz, for an administration role, keep my fingers crossed!

Finally my mum’s pc workes well ( thanks guys ) so now i can talk to my parents, i am not feeling nostalgia of italy, but i would like to be able to talk to them when we want, to be sure that i can tell things to them and they can do the same to me.

Tomorrow it is going to start the V8 race, it’s a big event here in Hamilton, people are excited about it and newspaper, tv and radio talking about it. Anyway i am not interested in it, i am interested in another important sport event, on friday evening there is a rugby game, Chiefs VS Crusaders and we have tickets to see it. It is my first game in New Zealand and i am very excited about it, overall because Crusaders in this moment is the best rugby team of the Super14. I will take photos of the game.

Ciao.

Oronzo Cana’ in Kiwiland

April 10, 2008

Oronzo "Tommy" Cana'

yep, this morning i did my first english interview and it was so easy. I was afraid because of my english but it seems i am getting better everyday.

Anyway i won’t start that job, it’s like a paid hobby as “Soccer Coah” for this private high school ( it seemt to be like the school of Harry Potter), the team is composed from girls ad boys between 13 and 14 years old.

The salary is not bad, but it is out of town and just for 3 days per week for 6/7 hours. I can’t do it, when i will start to work full time i will not have time to do both of them jobs then.

But i would really like to try it. yesterday night i emt this couple and he is a manager for this multinational here in Hamitron ( Hamilton ) and gave me a phone number to talk to the accounting services manager, maybe she can help me to have job for it, atleast i hope it.

Tonight i am going to go out for a japanese dinner with BYO ( bring your own ), it is very interesting, you can go out to dinner here and you can bring your own drink, si it’s cheaper and you can drink what you want, everytime.

i have to tell that kiwis are so into wines, they like so much and they have heaps of good wines, honestly i tried just white wines but they are good. I have been talking to these italians, they are in Auckland and Wellington and they said kiwi food is not so good..well i can not agree on it, i found it so good ( actually i fell in love for this potato, it’s a sweet potato, Kumara, i tried as a sort of french fries..very good, yum!

Mac’s Vs Guinness

April 10, 2008

Here we are again, today it’s time to talk about beers..in these days i could drink a few beers and i have a small dilemma: what’s better between Guinness and Mac’s? still i don’t know, but i have a thing for the Mac’s there is a large list of flavours and the great white tastes so good.

but the first love is hard to forget and the Guinness is my first love, and the funny thing is the price of Guinness here in Nz, so far from Ireland but cheaper than in italy, silly country that one! The six pack costs about 14 dollars, and if you want a pint of guinness at the pub, it costs about 7.50 kiwis, thats crazy.

Mac’s six pack costs about 10/11 dollars, so i better bring this one, cheaper and good anyway.

Help yourself guys.

days in nz

April 8, 2008

Here we are dudes, i am finally in New Zealand, actually this is my 6th day in Hamilton. After more of 30 hours flying i came at Auckland’s airport and the first impression was so good, i could breathe so deep the air so clean, and that was in Auck., the biggest city of NZ.

Hamilton is quite a good city, not so big and not too small to make you feel islated. There are so many pubs and cafes to go out at night and the people are very friendly. Where i am living is very nice, it is a small farm with sheep ( very nz icon ) and with so much green around.

Fortunatly i was not so jat lagged, just thursday and friday but then it was better. the family is not so bad, i am knowing them day by day and it seems they are happy to have their daughter and grandchild happy being with me.

saturday i met a few italians, they’re living here in hamilto, friendly people: retired people, a restaurant owner, a uni’s tutor and this couple with my same visa ( WHV ) from Novara, they’ve arrived here the last month, i have their cellphone’s numbers so we can keep in touch for the next weekend, they’re working picking apples ( i know, not the best job but they just want something to survive these months ). it’s weird how italians can change when they live abroad, they are living in this home and the owner is italian, but he travels on thursday to italy for a whole month so he left his home to him to live for free, they just have to look after his cat, amazing!

sunday morning we went to Raglan, it’s a small village near Hamilton, it’s like a hippy village with these big waves and it’s famous all other the world for them, there is a big surf competition every year..the beach is so nice, black sand and not so many people, we were there early in the morning and it seemt to be on the moon, cool.

i started to search job yesterday night applying to these job’s advs for accounters, i hope to find it soon. I need of many to travel, there are so many places to see and things to do here ( sorry Fabio & Gio, i decided to not buy a car, well it’s not the first thing to do, we have one now and we dont need to have another at the moment )

Today i will go to the swimming pool with Aimee to see Brittany having her lesson, i am glad of how the relationship is growng up with her, she is so funny, she told aimee “i don’t love him yet, but after eight weeks i will”, sometimes kids can be very funny.

Ciao Ciao.
